A View Through a Different Window

Papersmith’s concept installation transforms house plants into colourful otherworldly exhibits…

With extended curfews and quarantine over the last year, artist Papersmith decided to work with what was around her at home to create new inspiration for her latest sculptural series ‘A View Through A Different Window’.

Smith 3d scanned the plants and flowers in her apartment, brought them back in the physical space through AR and then took photographs of their distorted biological forms to create the base patterns for new paper materials to work with. Smith then sculpted interpretations of the same plants using the new paper textures to give them an otherworldly feel as the basis for her installation concept.

‘A View Through A Different Window’ hopes to transport visitors far away from the normal views in their homes and apartments, giving a twist to everyday house plants to elevate the day to day. To round off the concept, the strong colours within each room are a league away from the off white walls that decorate many apartments, Smith’s included, to really take visitors to a new space that’s far different from what they have seen over the last year during lock down.
